With over 20 years of experience as a trial attorney representing both plaintiffs and defendants, I provide a mediation perspective centered on the practical reality that a fair resolution almost always outweighs the cost and risk of trial. I also know that some cases need to be tried. I have served as lead counsel in trials, arbitrations, and appeals across California, handling everything from modest two-party disputes to high-stakes, multi-party litigation.
My approach is built for trial lawyers who need a mediator who understands both the risks and incentives on both sides and can assist counsel in navigating individual expectations to resolution.
Experience: My background includes extensive litigation experience in areas including labor and employment (wrongful termination, retaliation, sexual harassment, discrimination, wage-and-hour), complex business contracts, entertainment, copyright and trademark, probate, elder abuse and real estate matters involving contracts, negligence, nuisance and trespass.
Pre-Mediation Preparation: I conduct pre-mediation calls with counsel at least one week in advance of the mediation date. Reviewing briefs and identifying subtle settlement barriers before the session ensures we don't waste the first three hours of the mediation day on logistics.
Risk and Leverage Assessment: Drawing on experience from hundreds of mediations, I help parties and insurers realistically evaluate their positions and surface the underlying interests required to reach a resolution.
Persistent Follow-Up: If a case does not settle in session, my work continues. I remain engaged through follow-up calls and emails to build on the progress made and achieve finality.
I also bring a unique perspective from a lifelong career as a professional orchestral musician, offering insight into interpersonal dynamics and creative industry nuances that often drive complex disputes.
I am available for virtual or in-person mediations from my office in Newport Beach. Please let me know if you would like to discuss a specific case or schedule a session. Call: (949) 733-0640 or email: [email protected].
